The traditional pre-season SRC Basin Camp was held last weekend. Forty kids primed and ready to do their Surf Rescue Certificate or prepare for the Bronze Medallion were treated to a great weekend sleepover at The Basin in Pittwater. The Saturday morning session saw 5 groups of 8 rotate through board training, tube rescue lessons, first aid, CPR and communications. After lunch, the WAC went out and the wonderful IRB guys and girls ferried the group into the middle of Pittwater for IRB awareness lessons and generally a heap of fun. After a cold shower and dinner, everyone warmed up by the fire and headed to bed early ready for the Jet Ski and IRB’s to return on Sunday.
The campers were all well behaved and a credit to themselves and the club. Big thanks must go to the recent camp graduates who attended to assist with training: Guyren and the IRB team; Geoff Raper for bringing the jet ski after a tough Saturday; and Ilia, Gavin and Crutchy for organising the weekend. An even bigger thanks go to Jess, Lauren, Ben C, Ben M and Brendan. These legends were at the club 9.30am Friday getting gear out and still going at 2pm Sunday putting it all back. If the camp continues to produce members like this then long live The Basin Camp.
