Description
The Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) course is the introductory award for a patrolling surf lifesaver, which can be achieved from the age of 13. This course helps to prepare participants for active patrolling duties that may include rescue skills, first aid, and resuscitation.
Participants test their practical learning skills and explore the theoretical side of surf lifesaving, including safety knowledge and surf awareness.

Pre-requisites
A candidate must:
- Be a minimum of 13 years old on the date of assessment.
- Note: if you will be 15 years or over on the date of the dry assessment, please visit our Bronze Medallion page.
- Have completed a 200-metre swim in five (5) minutes or less in a swimming pool of no less than 25m or over open measured water which will be observed before the candidate undertakes any water training or assessment activities.
Assessments
Assessment of the SRC is based on candidate induction and the following assessment tasks:
- Dry Assessments – Signals, First Aid & CPR
- Wet Assessments – 100m Run-100m Swim-100m Run, Rescues (tube and board)
You need to be committed to attending Nippers each week to become competent in all areas of the course. This will also require you to study your training manual at home. Worksheets will be given out weekly and must be returned the following week with your name clearly marked.
Please be prepared with goggles, a towel, sunscreen, a wetsuit, warm clothes, a training manual, a drink bottle, a pen, paper and a positive attitude.
