Newport Surfboat Carnival Wrap Up

Newport rowers hosted their 22nd Annual Surfboat Carnival on Saturday, 20th November. Unusually for Newport, the surf started flat and just got flatter, only lifting itself from its lethargy as the tide dropped and the wind rose above a zephyr.

We had four crews entered, Open Women ‘Thunder’, Reserve women ‘Catfish’, u23 women ‘Nemos’ and our u19 boys ‘Noodlefish’ rowing up in u23s. All crews competed strongly, the Thunder finishing second in their first season in opens. A big effort from all the rowers, especially our masters setting up and packing up at the end of the day.

Great support from Matt Edwards and his IRB team for setup and water safety and also from Lily Tancred organising our first aid cover.
