It was a big day for a mother and son in Champion Lifesaver at the Branch Championships at Palm Beach on Saturday. Sam Capell took out the under 15 male event and his mother Bec won the female 40 years-plus. Both are members of Newport SLSC and were competing in the event for the first time.
Bec says she now has more time to do things for herself at the beach. ”I am really looking forward to improving my theory and board skills next season,” she said. Other Newport winners were Guyren Smith (40-plus male), Phoebe Savage (open female), while James Simmonds was second in the under 17 male.
