Two Blue Ring Octopuses are in a Rockpool near the Pool

Thanks to a Newport resident, Jackie, we know of two blue-ringed octopuses in the rock pool near the Newport pool. Jackie took the photo yesterday afternoon.

Why Are They Dangerous?

They are one of the world’s most venomous animals. Despite its small size, the blue-ringed octopus carries enough venom to kill 26 adult humans within minutes. The venom is in their saliva and enters your system when they bite you. Their bite can result in paralysis and respiratory depression – stopping you from breathing.

Their bite is usually tiny but painless. Commonly the first signs you have been bitten will be numb lips and tongue.
