Australian Surf Rowers League Team Navy Australian Open at Mollymook Beach

by Michael King

Good luck this weekend to all our water and beach team from the Newport surfboat team. While you’re all pushing hard for NSW gold, your surfboat crews will be competing at the Australian Surf Rowers League Team Navy Australian Open at Mollymook Beach. This is the largest surfboat event other than Aussies, with 300 crews from all over Australia (except of course WA).

  • There are seven Newport crews in various divisions racing, the hot favourites being the Open Men ‘Hellfish’ after their great results in recent events.
  • The current NSW champion Reserve Men’s crew ‘Shellfish’ make their season debut along with Ellis’ Ressies and we’re expecting big things from our u19 ‘Noodlefish’.
  • Our Aussie champ u23 women Thunder are rowing Open women due to an injury, but will be back to 23s for the championships. Reserve women, Nudibranchs and u23 Nemos are moving well and looking forward to Sunday finals.

Up the ‘port, see you all at the surf club on Sunday.

If you want to check on the boaties you’ll find the live stream of the carnival on ‘Team Navy ASRL’ Facebook and ‘Australian Surf Rowers League’ YouTube on the following days; *Friday from 8am Saturday from 11am Sunday from 9am.

* All times are a guide and are in NSW time. Check in each day for updated details.
