Newport Nippers come in overall 10th place at State Championships

Over 4 days of competition at this year’s State Championship from 25-28 of February, our team of 25 junior competitors secured a tally of 3 Gold, 6 Silver, 3 Bronze medals, and an overall 10th place.  Despite some challenging conditions, many of the competitors made the finals, a huge achievement at a State level.

The under 9, 10, and 11 were held on Thursday 25 and Friday 26 February in some nasty challenging surf, followed by the 12, 13, and 14’s on Saturday and Sunday. The strict Covid rules made the event challenging with the age groups split up and sand events held in a different location.

Nevertheless, through the highs and lows at this level of competition, our young athletes displayed sportsmanship and talent.

Our Nippers should be proud of their achievements and enjoy a well-earned rest.

Thank you to our dedicated coaches Aaron Morris and Tayla Tullet as well as the coordinating brilliance of a group of parents including Hilary Maggs and David Barbour.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!
