IRB Training

IRB Crew

To be an IRB crew you need to hold your Bronze Medallion. From here you will need to go through an IRB Induction. This gives you the basic skills needed to safely crew an IRB. After completing the induction we will be conducting training once a week for a few hours. You will be able to complete other training on patrol with a proficient qualified IRB driver.

Keep your eye on our Club News page for information regarding upcoming courses or send an enquiry to our PowerCraft Captain.

IRB Driver

An IRB driver requires to hold and be proficient in their IRB Crew certificate and to be 16 years old before the commencement of training, being 17 to complete the award. The participant will either need a Maritime boat licence or to complete Workbook 1 (SLSNSW waterways license) prior to beginning to drive the boat. They will also need to go through an induction on basic driving techniques. From here training will be conducted once a week. Further training is possible once deemed competent enough to go with a qualified proficient IRB driver.

IRB Driver courses run approx 8-10 weeks dependent on surf conditions. Priority will be given to those on patrols requiring additional drivers. If you are interested in participating in training please email our PowerCraft Captain.
