A good start to 2022 for a couple of our women’s surfboat crews last weekend.
Our Open women ‘Thunder’ finished fourth in the first round of the Ocean Thunder Surfboat Series at Dee Why on Saturday. Despite losing bow girl Claudia Harris to the spicy cough, Tara Doyle, Abby Ballesty, Zarah Lumsdaine and super-sub Megz Barr powered through the preliminary rounds. Although not a big surf, there was just enough to check them in the final, finishing just outside the placegetters.
On Sunday our u23 Nemos were also a tantalisingly close fourth at the annual Collaroy Young Guns event. Claire Ford, Kate Wilson, Naomi Bronier with new girl Jenny Stewart and sweep Ellis James started to find their boat speed, beating a few of the more fancied crews. A strong race in their semi saw them in their first final after a great days racing.
