Newport Proud of their Iron Athletes
The very best from around Australia were lined up for the last round in the 2019/20 Nutrigrain Iron Series at North Cronulla on Sunday January 19. Our local iron athletes brought home fantastic results.
In a last-minute change, Zach Morris and Emily Doyle were called up to race only a few days before the competition which meant we had 6 Newport athletes competing. They joined Lizzie Welborn, Max Brooks, Jackson Borg and Charlie Brooks at the Survival Round.
Lizzie Welborn did not disappoint. This final round offered her a chance of getting her first podium finish in the series since she first qualified. Following a training season fraught with disruptions from suffering glandular fever to changing clubs from North Bondi to Newport, the 21-year old manage to pull it together this season. The result was a well-earned third place for Lizzie Welborn.
