It was a busy weekend at Newport, with Santa arriving twice. Santa visited us on Saturday when the Chamber of Commerce organised a carols parade through Newport village and ended up at the beach with Professor Bubbles and our beloved Santa. Santa then had a good night’s sleep before doing it again on Sunday afternoon for our Nippers. The Nippers had a jam-packed afternoon of water slides and obstacle courses. Thank you to Scott Newey for donating the plastic for the slide and to all the age managers who helped with the afternoon setup. Santa gave out Zooper Doopers and care packages that were donated to us by our new sponsor Avene.
After Santa’s visit, there was a presentation on the deck with our new “Bronzies” and SRC kids. Presenting these accomplishments in front of our Nippers is an excellent opportunity to show them where the path of junior activities can take them. It was beautiful to see so many people on the deck. It has been a long time since we have been able to hold such a function. Everyone had the opportunity to have a gourmet sausage sandwich and a drink at the bar to celebrate the accomplishments of our club members. We also got to announce our new Nipper leaders for the season. Congratulations to Ben Carroll, Abi Capell and Ava Wearne. We look forward to your presence around the club.
As always, such an event does not happen by itself. Thank you to all those that helped with the cooking and serving of the BBQ. There was also a raffle of two prizes, a meat tray from Devitts Meat and a lovely fruit box donated by Harris Farm, another one of our wonderful sponsors.
